Bridging the connectivity gap for emergency vehicles

TomTom and vehicle radio specialist collaborate on developing integrated connectivity of devices used by emergency services in their vehicles.

Navigation and mapping specialist, TomTom has teamed up with elektronik-labor CARLS to provide radio applications for emergency services based on TomTom “Bridge”, which provides connectivity with business applications.

With more emphasis being placed by police and other emergency service providers on connectivity and digitalisation, there is a need to provide greater interactivity in the vehicles they use. This interactivity involves combining services with TETRA radio sysems, the CAN bus and the fleet management systems they use, according to elektronik-labor CARLS’ MD, Joachim Schulte.

“TomTom Bridge is an outstanding device that offers superb navigation with great possibilities to integrate it into various systems, which we will be demonstrating at forthcoming trade shows,” he said.

Sebastien Ruffino of TomTom added, “We’re really excited about showcasing the CARLS integration at forthcoming events but, more widely, how the TomTom BRIDGE can help any type of emergency services vehicle on the move to work more efficiently, be quicker, save time and money and bring innovative services.”
