Chomutov Improves Traffic Management With IP Surveillance

The Czech city of Chomutov upgrades its metropolitan surveillance network using distributed IP architecture for improved traffic management.

The system, supplied by IP surveillance equipment supplier IndigoVision, is a hybrid network employing analogue pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, each with an IndigoVision IP encoder for transmitting the signals using the more flexible internet protocol across the network.

The whole network is controlled using three “Control Center” stations using IndigoVision’s SMS4 security management software which has been integrated with the existing crisis management software used by Chomutov police.

A significant factor in the new installation is the serverless architecture which facilitates future expansion requirements as the needs of the city grow. To keep bandwidth down, the system employs “Activity Controlled Framerate” which streams the appropriate amount of video based on activity detected within the camera’s field of view. During quiet periods with low traffic and at night time, the cameras transmit fewer images thus consuming less bandwidth than at peak times.
