Honda extends integrated navigation partnership
Future Hondas will continue to receive Garmin integrated navigation capabilities as part of the in-dash infotainment system.
A four year extended agreement has been struck between Honda Motors and Garmin International which will see navigation integrated with multiple infotainment systems fitted to Honda cars, including the latest innovative navigation and infotainment console in the new Honda Pilot.
The unique features that Garmin navigation users have got used to will form part of the integrated Honda units and include pre-loaded maps that enable drivers to continue seamless navigation through regions that have poor or no mobile phone receiption. The 3D building and terrain view provides realistic mapping features along with lane guidance and Garmin’s photoReal junction view which provides the driver with realistic images of junction and exits, which can be critical in complex navigation tasks.
Speed limits are displayed on the navigation panel and real-time traffic congestion avoidance is built into the software to ease the flow through busy areas at peak traffic times.
Garmin’s managing director of automotive OEM, Matt Munn, expressed his delight at the extension of the partnership that Garmin has with Honda Motors. “This partnership will bring our navigation expertise to Honda’s customers via an integrated system that is feature-packed and easy to use,” he said.
