Turning across the path of an overtaking vehicle
Moving into a side road, a driver in Russia fails to notice a car overtaking on double white lines prior to collision.
An accident occurred last month at Tsilomen near the bleak northern Russian city of Arkhangelsk when the driver of a car turning left onto a side road failed to notice a car to the rear overtaking on a double white line. Braking hard, the overtaking car failed to stop in time and collided with the turning vehicle.
On such a fine day on an open stretch of straight road with a good road surface and clear road markings, it is hard to blame this accident on anything other than a blatant disregard for traffic laws. A famous local comedian once quipped that “only in Russia can you cross a double white line and be struck from the rear”.
